Join us at the Electric Cinema Portobello to celebrate Buster Keaton's 1926 masterpiece The General. Featuring live piano accompaniment and complimentary drinks, this is a special evening not to be missed.
Storyline
1862, Georgia, USA. Everyman Johnnie Gray has two great loves in his life — his sweetheart Annabelle and his locomotive, the General. Despite his position as a valuable Western & Atlantic Railroad engineer, Johnnie is first in line to enlist when the American Civil War breaks out. However, his rejection casts a blight on his relationship with Annabelle. It is only when the General is stolen by northern saboteurs that Johnnie embarks on a journey behind enemy lines to retrieve it single–handedly. In a flurry of train chases, death–defying stunts, and heroic feats, can Johnnie prove his worth?
Live Piano!
We are pleased to announce that the silent film aficionado and pianist Jack Taylor will accompany the 4th October screening of Buster Keaton's The General with his playful, dramatic improvisations.
After a short talk, Jack will bring Keaton's American Civil War action–adventure–comedy to life with a soundtrack that echoes how the film was intended to be viewed when it was first released almost 100 years ago.
